So there goes another naked woman singing and repeating thank-yous every other week for quite some time (cos she was in the chart for months) and I kinda liked the song. It had grown on me since the third week. And now even just listening to Thank U took me back into time and I always find myself picturing my home and me still in my Elementary uniform untucked, chilling on the couch while having my lunch, with my mom having the hardest times spoon-feeding me. It's always in saturday afternoons and I was always as happy as I could be cos I had no tuition whatsoever on saturdays right after school, and I kinda looked forward to MTV charts every weekend. Somehow I like it the old ways: Alanis Morissette, Robbie Williams, and when Justin Timberlake was still known as 'N Sync, before Pussycat Dolls became the new Spice Girls and no Ne-Yo or Rihanna for sure.
So maybe it's a little 10 years too late but Alanis has really grown on me. Well, since just recently I would say. And I find it a lil bit ironic how her music was too big for me to appreciate at that time, and it took me 10 years to be big enough to appreciate that.
She's an inspirational music maker with the wisest pieces of songs.
And this is as funny as it is ironic and true:
An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic, don't you think?
Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic, don't you think?
A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic...don't you think
